Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) USA has reported sales of 171,910 vehicles for 25 selling days in September 2012, an increase of 41.5% compared to the same period in 2011.
The Toyota Division sold 151,524 units in September 2012, an increase of 42.3% from the prior year period.
The Lexus Division reported passenger car sales of 12,020 units for the month, up 35.7% from the same period previous year.
For September 2012, Toyota Division passenger cars sold 85,642 units, an increase of 47.1% from the same period in the year ago.
Toyota Division light trucks posted sales of 65,882 units for the month, a rise of 36.6% compared to the same period in 2011.
TMS posted hybrid vehicle sales of 26,747 units in September 2012, while Toyota Division posted sales of 23,110 hybrids and Lexus Division reported sales of 3,637 hybrids.
Toyota group vice president and general manager Bill Fay said, "Our dealers got off to a great start over Labor Day weekend and that momentum carried through the rest of the month, as Camry continued to stretch its lead as the most popular car in America."
